Upload errors and how to fix them
These are the messages the JEE Main portal shows. Each one has a fix.
- Error:
File size should be between 10 kb to 200 kb
- Fix: Your JEE Main photo is too big (or below 10 KB). Phone photos are 2–5 MB; Auto-fit brings it inside 10–200 KB without changing what you look like.
- Error:
Signature file size should be between 10 kb to 100 kb
- Fix: The signature limit is smaller than the photo limit. Crop tight around the ink and Auto-fit to 10–100 KB.
- Error:
Invalid file type. Only JPG/JPEG allowed
- Fix: iPhone HEIC or PNG screenshots are refused. SahiSize converts any photo to a real JPG.
- Error:
Live photo not matched
- Fix: The live photo did not match Aadhaar. Retake it in better light without a cap or new glasses. If it still fails, NTA asks for the attested photo certificate from the bulletin annexure.
- Error:
PDF size should be between 50 kb to 300 kb
- Fix: Certificates must be one PDF of 50–300 KB. A single clean page is often under 50 KB; SahiSize adds quality until it crosses the minimum.
JEE Main photo upload rules
JEE Main keeps uploads short: a photo, a signature and a Class 10 PDF for everyone, plus a disability certificate and an ID proof only for some candidates. Like every NTA form, it states file sizes in KB and gives no pixel dimensions.
What makes JEE Main different
- Two sessions, one set of files. Session 1 opens in the autumn and session 2 early in the year. If you applied for session 1 you log in with the same application number later, so keep your files.
- The signature can be larger than in CUET or UGC NET. JEE allows 10–100 KB, while those forms stop at 50 KB. Do not copy a JEE signature into them without fitting it again.
- Class 10 proof is mandatory. It goes up as one PDF of 50–300 KB.
Prepare in this order
- Photograph yourself in colour against a white wall. Your face should fill about 80% of the frame with both ears visible and no mask. Auto-fit keeps a 3.5×4.5 cm shape inside 10–200 KB.
- Sign on white paper in black ink, crop tight and fit it to 10–100 KB.
- Scan or photograph the Class 10 certificate or marksheet. Add all pages here and save one PDF between 50 and 300 KB.
- If you will not verify identity through Aadhaar or DigiLocker, photograph your ID card and fit it to a 10–200 KB JPG.
- PwD candidates: make the disability or UDID certificate a 50–300 KB PDF.
Live photo
The form captures a live photo with your webcam or, through a QR code, your phone. It is compared with Aadhaar, so wear what you wear in your recent photo.
Timing
The session 1 form for JEE Main 2026 ran from 31 October to 27 November 2025. The next session 1 window is likely around November.
If the portal still rejects it
Read the error: a type error usually means a HEIC or PNG file, and a size error means the file is outside its KB range. Run the same file through the exam preset again rather than a generic compressor.
JEE photo size FAQ
What is the photo and signature size for JEE Main?
Photo 10–200 KB and signature 10–100 KB, both JPG/JPEG. NTA gives no pixel size, only the KB range.
What is the live photo in JEE Main?
Besides the uploaded photo, the form captures a live photo with your webcam or phone (scan the QR code). It is matched with Aadhaar, so take it in good light and look like your recent photo.
Do I upload again for JEE Main session 2?
Candidates who applied for session 1 log in with the same application number; new candidates fill the full form, including photo and signature. Keep your files from session 1.
What size is the Class 10 certificate for JEE Main?
A PDF of 50–300 KB. If your one-page scan is under 50 KB, SahiSize raises its quality to cross the minimum.
Do I need to upload an ID proof?
Only if you verify your identity without Aadhaar or DigiLocker. Then upload the ID as a JPG of 10–200 KB.
Can the photo have a light blue background?
The bulletin asks for a white background. Retake against a white wall rather than risk it.
Does the JEE Main photo need my name and date?
Not in the 2026 bulletin as we read it: the photo rules ask for a recent colour photo on a white background, with no name-and-date strip. Older forms and some coaching guides mention a JEE Main photo with name and date, which is why people search for it. Follow your own bulletin; if it asks for the strip, add it before you upload.
