You don't need to upload a photo for SSC GD Constable. The form takes it with your webcam or phone camera. Here's how to get the live photo right:

Upload errors and how to fix them

These are the messages the SSC GD Constable portal shows. Each one has a fix.

Error: Applications with blurred/miniature signatures will be rejected summarily
Fix: This line is in the SSC GD notice. "Miniature" means the ink is tiny inside a big white image. Crop close to the signature so the ink fills most of the 6×2 cm box; Clean signature does this for you.
Error: File size should be between 10 KB and 20 KB
Fix: A plain signature often saves below 10 KB. Auto-fit raises the quality (and adds invisible padding if needed) to land between 10 and 20 KB.
Error: Invalid file format
Fix: The signature must be JPEG/JPG. Do not upload a PNG screenshot or a PDF scan.
Error: Photograph captured is not as per the instructions
Fix: The live photo was taken with a cap, glasses, a dark room or a face cut off by the frame. Recapture before submitting; you can retake it as many times as needed.
Error: Signature should be horizontally aligned
Fix: A slanted or vertical signature is rejected in GD. Rotate it straight in the crop screen before Auto-fit.

About the SSC GD Constable upload rules

SSC GD Constable is a little different from other SSC exams. The photo is still captured live, but the signature instructions in the GD notice add a resolution: 6.0 cm × 2.0 cm at 300 DPI. The 2026 cycle took applications from 01.12.2025 to 31.12.2025, so expect the next form around December.

What 300 DPI means for you

Most SSC exams work out to about 472×157 px at 200 DPI. At 300 DPI the same 6.0×2.0 cm becomes about 709×236 px. The file size limit does not change: 10–20 KB, JPG. SahiSize makes the 709×236 px version for GD and writes 300 DPI into the file.

A larger image with the same KB limit means the background must be clean. Grey paper or a shadow adds weight to the file. Clean signature removes both.

Signature checklist

  • Black ink on white paper.
  • Horizontal, not slanted. The GD notice asks for a horizontally aligned signature.
  • Large enough to fill the box. The notice names “miniature” signatures as the main reason for rejection.
  • Your normal signature, the same one you will use at the exam and the PET.

Thumb impression

The official notice asks only for the signature. Some guides mention a 10–30 KB thumb upload. If your form shows that field, make it here; if not, skip it.

The live photo

Use good light and a plain background, keep the camera at eye level, and look straight ahead with your whole face in the frame. No cap, mask or spectacles. The notice includes sample photos of acceptable and unacceptable captures; take another shot if yours looks dark or cut off.

If the signature keeps failing

Check, in order: the file is JPG; it is between 10 and 20 KB; the signature is straight and fills most of the image. Rotate it in the crop screen if it slopes, then run Auto-fit again from the original picture.

SSC GD Constable size FAQ

Do I need to upload a photo for SSC GD?

No. The photo is taken live in the form with your webcam or the mySSC app. Do not point the camera at an old printed photo; SSC rejects such forms.

What is the signature size for SSC GD?

About 6.0 cm wide × 2.0 cm high, 10–20 KB, JPG. In pixels that is about 709×236 at 300 DPI; SahiSize makes exactly that.

Why is the SSC GD signature bigger in pixels than SSC CGL?

The GD notice says 6.0×2.0 cm "at a resolution of 300 DPI", which works out to about 709×236 pixels. The KB limit is the same 10–20 KB.

Do I need to upload a thumb impression for SSC GD?

The official notice asks only for the signature. Some guides mention a thumb upload of 10–30 KB; if your form shows that field, make it here.

What if I use Aadhaar authentication for SSC GD?

SSC says forms submitted through Aadhaar-based authentication are not rejected for photo or signature quality. You still need to upload a signature, so make it right anyway.

What is the most common reason SSC GD signatures are rejected?

The notice itself says it: "miniature" signatures, a small signature inside a large white image. Crop tight so the ink fills the box.
