Photo is taken live in the form
You don't need to upload a photo for SSC MTS & Havaldar. The form takes it with your webcam or phone camera. Here's how to get the live photo right:
- Find a place with good light and a plain background
- Keep the camera at eye level
- Sit directly in front of the camera and look straight ahead
- Keep your whole face inside the frame, not too close or too far
- No cap, mask or glasses/spectacles
- Do not point the camera at an old printed photo; that gets the form rejected
Upload sizes
-
Signature 10–20 KB
472×157 px · 6×2 cm (derived) · JPG · 200 DPI
- Black ink on white paper
- Signature must fill the box; blurred or tiny signatures are rejected
- Keep it horizontal, not slanted
Note: ≈472×157 px, derived from 6.0×2.0 cm at 200 DPI
Upload errors and how to fix them
These are the messages the SSC MTS & Havaldar portal shows. Each one has a fix.
- Error:
Applications with blurred/miniature signatures will be rejected summarily
- Fix: This line is in the SSC MTS notice. "Miniature" means the ink is tiny inside a big white image. Crop close to the signature so the ink fills most of the 6×2 cm box; Clean signature does this for you.
- Error:
File size should be between 10 KB and 20 KB
- Fix: A plain signature often saves below 10 KB. Auto-fit raises the quality (and adds invisible padding if needed) to land between 10 and 20 KB.
- Error:
Invalid file format
- Fix: The signature must be JPEG/JPG. Do not upload a PNG screenshot or a PDF scan.
- Error:
Photograph captured is not as per the instructions
- Fix: The live photo was taken with a cap, glasses, a dark room or a face cut off by the frame. Recapture before submitting; you can retake it as many times as needed.
About the SSC MTS & Havaldar upload rules
SSC MTS (Multi-Tasking Staff) and Havaldar (CBIC & CBN) are filled through a single form. The 2025 cycle is the latest we have values for, and the form usually opens around June–July. The photo is captured live; the signature is the upload you prepare.
What you need
- One signature file: JPG, 10–20 KB, about 6.0×2.0 cm (about 472×157 px at 200 DPI), black ink on white paper.
- A webcam or the mySSC app for the live photo.
Our values are checked against the official MTS 2025 notice on ssc.gov.in (para 10.6). SSC had not published the 2026 notice when we last checked.
Signing in Hindi or English
You can sign in any script. What matters is that it is your usual signature, it is clear, and it is not tiny. Use the same signature on the attendance sheet at the exam.
If you use a cyber cafe
Many MTS applicants apply at a cafe. You can still make the signature yourself:
- Sign on white paper at home with a black pen.
- Make the file here on your phone and download
sign.jpg. - Send it to yourself or carry it on a pen drive.
- At the cafe, sit in front of the webcam yourself for the live photo. It cannot be a photo of a printed photo.
Live photo in a small room
A dim room is the most common reason for retakes. Some fixes:
- Daytime, facing a window.
- A lamp placed behind the screen, pointing at your face.
- No bright window behind you; it turns your face dark.
- Plain wall behind you, no posters.
- No cap, mask or spectacles.
Why signatures get rejected
SSC states that blurred and miniature signatures are rejected summarily. “Miniature” means a small signature with lots of empty white space around it. A tight crop and Clean signature solve it.
When the upload fails
Make sure the file is JPG and between 10 and 20 KB. If the size is below 10 KB, run Auto-fit again; it raises quality and, if needed, adds invisible padding to reach the minimum without changing how the signature looks.
