Specs from the SSC notice: Notice: Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination, 2026 (F. No. HQ-C1102/5/2026-C-1, dated 07.09.2026) · checked 22 Oct 2026 ·Source (page 12)
Photo is taken live in the form
You don't need to upload a photo for SSC CHSL. The form takes it with your webcam or phone camera. Here's how to get the live photo right:
- Find a place with good light and a plain background
- Keep the camera at eye level
- Sit directly in front of the camera and look straight ahead
- Keep your whole face inside the frame, not too close or too far
- No cap, mask or glasses/spectacles
- Do not point the camera at an old printed photo; that gets the form rejected
Upload sizes
-
Signature 10–20 KB
472×157 px · 6×2 cm (derived) · JPG · 200 DPI
- Black ink on white paper
- Signature must fill the box; blurred or tiny signatures are rejected
- Keep it horizontal, not slanted
Note: ≈472×157 px, derived from 6.0×2.0 cm at 200 DPI. The notice says about 6.0×2.0 cm in para 9.6 and again on page 35, but about 4.0×2.0 cm in Annexure-IV; both are "about" and the KB range is the same, so we use 6.0×2.0 cm.
Upload errors and how to fix them
These are the messages the SSC CHSL portal shows. Each one has a fix.
- Error:
Applications with blurred/miniature signatures will be rejected summarily
- Fix: This line is in the SSC CHSL notice. "Miniature" means the ink is tiny inside a big white image. Crop close to the signature so the ink fills most of the 6×2 cm box; Clean signature does this for you.
- Error:
File size should be between 10 KB and 20 KB
- Fix: A plain signature often saves below 10 KB. Auto-fit raises the quality (and adds invisible padding if needed) to land between 10 and 20 KB.
- Error:
Invalid file format
- Fix: The signature must be JPEG/JPG. Do not upload a PNG screenshot or a PDF scan.
- Error:
Photograph captured is not as per the instructions
- Fix: The live photo was taken with a cap, glasses, a dark room or a face cut off by the frame. Recapture before submitting; you can retake it as many times as needed.
About the SSC CHSL upload rules
SSC CHSL (10+2 level) recruits LDC/JSA, PA/SA and DEO posts. The 2026 form ran from 07.09.2026 to 07.10.2026. As with all current SSC exams, the photo is taken live in the form and the signature is the only standard upload. Our values are checked against the official CHSL 2026 notice on ssc.gov.in (para 9.6).
Signature spec
- JPG, 10–20 KB.
- About 6.0×2.0 cm, which is about 472×157 px at 200 DPI. One annexure of the notice says about 4.0×2.0 cm instead; the main text says 6.0×2.0 cm, so we use that.
- Black ink, clear, filling the box.
If you are applying for the first time
Many CHSL applicants are filling an SSC form for the first time. A short order of work:
- Complete One-Time Registration on the SSC site first. It takes time and needs your details exactly as on your 10th certificate.
- Make your signature file here before you open the application.
- Open the form on a laptop with a webcam, or use the mySSC app on your phone for the live photo.
- Upload
sign.jpgwhen asked, then review the preview carefully before you submit.
The signature in four checks
- Not blurred: photograph in daylight and hold the phone still.
- Not miniature: crop close so the ink fills most of the image.
- Not too light: KB under 10 often means a very faint signature. Sign again with a darker pen, or let Auto-fit raise the quality.
- Horizontal: rotate in the crop screen if it slopes.
Live photo tips that save retakes
Sit facing a window during the day. Put the laptop on a few books so the camera is at eye level. Remove spectacles, cap and mask. Keep your whole face inside the frame shown by the form.
Reusing files across SSC exams
The same signature file works for CGL, CHSL, MTS and CPO, as they share the same 10–20 KB, 6.0×2.0 cm rule. SSC GD is the exception, with a 300 DPI version.
If the form still rejects it
Check the format and size first. If both are right, wait and try again outside peak hours, especially in the last two days before the closing date.
SSC CHSL size FAQ
Do I need to upload a photo for SSC CHSL?
No. The photo is taken live in the form with your webcam or the mySSC app. Do not point the camera at an old printed photo; SSC rejects such forms.
What is the signature size for SSC CHSL?
About 6.0 cm wide × 2.0 cm high, 10–20 KB, JPG. In pixels that is about 472×157 at 200 DPI; SahiSize makes exactly that.
What if I use Aadhaar authentication for SSC CHSL?
SSC says forms submitted through Aadhaar-based authentication are not rejected for photo or signature quality. You still need to upload a signature, so make it right anyway.
Can I reuse my SSC CGL signature for CHSL?
Yes. Both use the same 6.0×2.0 cm, 10–20 KB JPG signature on the same SSC portal.
I am filling the form on my phone. Will the live photo work?
Yes, through the mySSC app or the browser camera. Sit facing a window, keep the phone at eye level and remove glasses and cap.
My signature is 9 KB. What do I do?
It is below the 10 KB minimum. Auto-fit increases quality to reach 10–20 KB without making the signature look different.
