Photo is taken live in the form
You don't need to upload a photo for SSC CGL. The form takes it with your webcam or phone camera. Here's how to get the live photo right:
- Find a place with good light and a plain background
- Keep the camera at eye level
- Sit directly in front of the camera and look straight ahead
- Keep your whole face inside the frame, not too close or too far
- No cap, mask or glasses/spectacles
- Do not point the camera at an old printed photo; that gets the form rejected
Upload sizes
-
Signature 10–20 KB
472×157 px · 6×2 cm (derived) · JPG · 200 DPI
- Black ink on white paper
- Signature must fill the box; blurred or tiny signatures are rejected
- Keep it horizontal, not slanted
Note: ≈472×157 px, derived from 6.0×2.0 cm at 200 DPI. One annexure of the notice says about 4.0×2.0 cm; the main instructions say 6.0×2.0 cm, which we follow.
Upload errors and how to fix them
These are the messages the SSC CGL portal shows. Each one has a fix.
- Error:
Applications with blurred/miniature signatures will be rejected summarily
- Fix: This line is in the SSC CGL notice. "Miniature" means the ink is tiny inside a big white image. Crop close to the signature so the ink fills most of the 6×2 cm box; Clean signature does this for you.
- Error:
File size should be between 10 KB and 20 KB
- Fix: A plain signature often saves below 10 KB. Auto-fit raises the quality (and adds invisible padding if needed) to land between 10 and 20 KB.
- Error:
Invalid file format
- Fix: The signature must be JPEG/JPG. Do not upload a PNG screenshot or a PDF scan.
- Error:
Photograph captured is not as per the instructions
- Fix: The live photo was taken with a cap, glasses, a dark room or a face cut off by the frame. Recapture before submitting; you can retake it as many times as needed.
About the SSC CGL upload rules
For SSC CGL you do not upload a photo. The form captures a live photo with your webcam or the mySSC app. The only file most candidates upload is the signature. The 2026 window was 21.05.2026 to 22.06.2026, so the next one is likely around May–June.
The signature, exactly
- JPG/JPEG, 10–20 KB.
- About 6.0 cm wide × 2.0 cm high. At 200 DPI that is about 472×157 px, which is what SahiSize makes.
- Black ink on white paper, clear, not blurred, not tiny.
SSC’s own wording is that applications with “blurred/miniature signatures” are rejected summarily. A miniature signature is a small squiggle in the middle of a large white image. The fix is a tight crop so the ink fills the box.
Five minutes to a clean signature
- Sign on plain white paper with a black gel or ink pen, a bit larger than usual.
- Photograph it flat in daylight. Keep the phone parallel to the paper.
- In SahiSize, crop close to the ink. The crop box is locked to the 3:1 shape.
- Leave Clean signature on. It turns the paper pure white and darkens the ink.
- Auto-fit lands the file between 10 and 20 KB. A plain signature often saves below 10 KB on its own; Auto-fit fixes that too.
Getting the live photo right
Find good light and a plain background, keep the camera at eye level, sit straight in front of it, keep your whole face inside the frame, and remove cap, mask and spectacles. Never point the camera at an old printed photo; SSC rejects such forms.
6.0 cm or 4.0 cm?
The main instructions say about 6.0×2.0 cm. One annexure of the notice says about 4.0×2.0 cm. Both say “about” and the KB range is identical, so the 6.0×2.0 cm file is the safe choice.
If it still fails
If the upload is refused, check the file type first (JPG only), then the KB range. If you chose Aadhaar-based authentication, SSC says the form will not be rejected for photo or signature quality, but you still need a valid signature upload.
