Rules for the signature
-
Signature 10–20 KB
472×157 px · 6×2 cm (derived) · JPG · 200 DPI
- Black ink on white paper
- Signature must fill the box; blurred or tiny signatures are rejected
- Keep it horizontal, not slanted
Note: ≈472×157 px, derived from 6.0×2.0 cm at 200 DPI. One annexure of the notice says about 4.0×2.0 cm; the main instructions say 6.0×2.0 cm, which we follow.
Tip: Sign on white paper with a black pen. Fill the box.
SSC CGL signature: what is specific to this exam
These SSC CGL 2026 rules come from the SSC notice “Combined Graduate Level Examination 2026”, page 18, last checked on 22 Oct 2026. The SSC CGL form usually opens around May–June.
From our SSC CGL notes
- For SSC CGL you do not upload a photo. The form captures a live photo with your webcam or the mySSC app. The only file most candidates upload is the signature. The 2026 window was 21.05.2026 to 22.06.2026, so the next one is likely around May–June.
- About 6.0 cm wide × 2.0 cm high. At 200 DPI that is about 472×157 px, which is what SahiSize makes.
- SSC's own wording is that applications with "blurred/miniature signatures" are rejected summarily. A miniature signature is a small squiggle in the middle of a large white image. The fix is a tight crop so the ink fills the box.
- Sign on plain white paper with a black gel or ink pen, a bit larger than usual.
- Photograph it flat in daylight. Keep the phone parallel to the paper.

- SSC CHSL, SSC CPO (Delhi Police & CAPF SI) and SSC MTS & Havaldar use the same signature size as SSC CGL (472×157 px · 10–20 KB · JPG), so one file passes all these forms. SSC CHSL sizes · SSC CPO (Delhi Police & CAPF SI) sizes · SSC MTS & Havaldar sizes
- Unlike SSC GD Constable, which wants 709×236 px · 10–20 KB · JPG, SSC CGL wants 472×157 px · 10–20 KB · JPG. Make a separate file for each form. SSC GD Constable sizes
Upload errors and how to fix them
These are the messages the SSC CGL portal shows. Each one has a fix.
- Error:
Applications with blurred/miniature signatures will be rejected summarily
- Fix: This line is in the SSC CGL notice. "Miniature" means the ink is tiny inside a big white image. Crop close to the signature so the ink fills most of the 6×2 cm box; Clean signature does this for you.
- Error:
File size should be between 10 KB and 20 KB
- Fix: A plain signature often saves below 10 KB. Auto-fit raises the quality (and adds invisible padding if needed) to land between 10 and 20 KB.
- Error:
Invalid file format
- Fix: The signature must be JPEG/JPG. Do not upload a PNG screenshot or a PDF scan.
SSC CGL signature questions
Is it 6.0×2.0 cm or 4.0×2.0 cm?
The main instructions (para 9.6) say about 6.0×2.0 cm; one annexure says about 4.0×2.0 cm. Both say "about" and the portal checks KB, so 6.0×2.0 cm is the safe choice.
Can I wear spectacles in the SSC CGL live photo?
No. The notice says no cap, mask or glasses/spectacles while capturing. Take them off for the photo, and appear at the exam looking like the photo.
Which documents do I upload for SSC CGL?
Only the signature for most candidates. PwBD candidates who want reservation or a scribe also upload the Certificate of Disability; the form shows its size limit, and our PDF tool can bring a scan under it.
