What differs between SSC exams
Very little, and that is good news. Every SSC form asks for one upload, the signature, and every recent notice gives the same box: about 6.0 cm wide and 2.0 cm high, JPG, 10–20 KB. Two details are worth knowing:
- SSC GD says the 6.0×2.0 cm signature is scanned “at a resolution of 300 DPI”, so its pixel size is bigger (about 709×236) than CGL, CHSL, CPO and MTS (about 472×157 at 200 DPI). The KB limit does not change.
- SSC CGL and CPO notices print 4.0×2.0 cm in one annexure and 6.0×2.0 cm in the main instructions. Both are “about”, and the portal checks the file type and KB, so we follow the main instruction.
The SSC photo is captured live
You do not upload a photo for any SSC exam. The form takes a live photo through your webcam or the mySSC app, and pointing the camera at an old printed photo gets the form rejected. Sit facing a window, camera at eye level, no cap, mask or spectacles, and retake it as often as you need before you submit.
Forms submitted with Aadhaar-based authentication are not rejected for photo or signature quality, but you still upload a signature, so make it right anyway.
SSC signature resize in four steps
- Sign three or four times on plain white paper with a black pen, in your normal running hand.
- Photograph the best one from straight above, in daylight, with no shadow.
- Open your exam page above and choose the signature. The crop is locked to 6×2 cm, and Clean signature turns grey paper white.
- Auto-fit sets the pixels and lands the file between 10 and 20 KB. Download
sign.jpgand upload it as it is.

SSC signature size FAQ
What is the SSC signature size?
About 6.0 cm wide × 2.0 cm high, 10–20 KB, JPG, for CGL, CHSL, CPO, MTS and GD. At 200 DPI that is about 472×157 pixels; the GD notice asks for 300 DPI, which makes it about 709×236 pixels. The KB range is the same everywhere.
How do I resize a signature to 6cm x 2cm for SSC?
Open your exam above and choose the signature. SahiSize crops to the 3:1 shape, sets the pixels for 6×2 cm at the DPI your notice uses, and lands the file between 10 and 20 KB.
Do I need an SSC photo resize or a photo with date?
No. Older SSC forms asked for an uploaded photo with the date it was taken printed on it. The current forms capture a live photo with your webcam or the mySSC app instead, so there is no photo file to resize and nothing to print a date on.
Is the SSC GD signature size different from SSC CGL?
Only in pixels. Both are about 6.0×2.0 cm and 10–20 KB, but the GD notice says 300 DPI, so the GD file is about 709×236 pixels against 472×157 for CGL. Make the GD file from the GD page.
Can I use one signature file for every SSC exam?
One file works for CGL, CHSL, CPO and MTS. For GD, make the 300 DPI version from the GD page.
My SSC signature is within 10–20 KB but still rejected. Why?
Usually because it is a "miniature" signature: small ink inside a large white image, which the notice says is rejected summarily. Crop close to the ink so it fills most of the box, and keep it dark and horizontal.
