Photo is taken live in the form

You don't need to upload a photo for RRB Group D (Level 1). The form takes it with your webcam or phone camera. Here's how to get the live photo right:

Pure plain white background, no scenery, plants or pictures behind you
Wear plain dark, non-white clothes that cover shoulders and chest
Camera at eye level; look straight with a neutral face and eyes fully open
Head fills at least half the photo; nothing below the chest in frame
No cap, mask or glasses; hair or cloth must not cover the face
No shade on the face and no strong light behind you

Upload errors and how to fix them

These are the messages the RRB Group D (Level 1) portal shows. Each one has a fix.

Error: File size should be between 30 KB and 49 KB: Fix: A clean signature is usually 10–20 KB, so it fails the 30 KB minimum. SahiSize first enlarges the image (still at least 140×60), then raises quality, and only then adds invisible padding until it reaches 30–49 KB.
Error: Signature written in BLOCK or CAPITAL letters instead of running handwriting: Fix: This is an official rejection ground. Sign in joined, running handwriting the way you sign a cheque.
Error: Use of a non-white background: Fix: Lined notebook paper, a yellowish page or a shadow counts as non-white. Sign on plain white paper and keep Clean signature on to make the background pure white.
Error: Use of non-black ink for the signature: Fix: Blue ink is not allowed for RRB. Sign again with a black pen.
Error: Live photo not matched with Photo ID: Fix: If the live photo does not match your ID, the form asks you to download Annexure VIII, get it attested and upload it. Retake the live photo in good light first.

About the RRB Group D (Level 1) upload rules

RRB Group D (Level 1, CEN 09/2025) is the largest railway recruitment, and many applicants fill the form on a phone. The form usually opens around January–February. You do not upload a photo; you upload a signature, and an SC/ST certificate only if you want a free travel pass.

A phone-only walkthrough

Sign on white paper with a black pen, in running handwriting. Leave space around it.
Photograph the paper flat, near a window, from straight above.
Crop in SahiSize. The box is shaped like the 35×20 mm area RRB describes.

Certificate: photograph each page, add them here, and make one PDF under 400 KB.

Why 30 KB?

RRB sets a minimum of 30 KB so that signatures are not tiny or low quality. Do not try to make the file smaller; that is the most common mistake on this form.

Your signature follows you

The signature you upload is compared at the CBT, document verification, medical examination and appointment. Use the signature you will actually sign with for years, not a special neat version.

Qualification does not change uploads

Whether you passed 10th, ITI or more, the uploads are the same.

The SC/ST certificate for Group D

RRB wants the latest valid certificate as on the closing date. If yours was issued years ago in an old state format, get a fresh one before the form closes rather than after; a Group D signature is easy to redo, a certificate is not.

If the form refuses the signature

Check that the Pass check card shows at least 140×60 px and 30–49 KB, and that the ink is black. If your signature was in blue or in capital letters, sign again; no amount of resizing fixes those.

Do I upload a photo for RRB Group D?

No. RRB captures a live photo with your webcam or phone front camera while you fill the form. You only upload your signature (and the SC/ST certificate if you want a free travel pass).

What is the signature size for RRB Group D?

JPG, at least 140×60 pixels, 30–49 KB, scanned at 100 DPI or more, black ink on white paper, centred in a 35×20 mm box.

Why is my 15 KB signature rejected? Smaller is better, right?

Not for RRB. The file must be at least 30 KB. SahiSize keeps the signature sharp and brings it up to 30–49 KB.

What should I wear for the RRB live photo?

Can I sign in blue ink?
