RRB signature size and live photo rules for every railway exam
The RRB signature size is the same on every railway recruitment form: a JPG of at least 140×60 pixels, between 30 and 49 KB, signed in black ink. There is no RRB photo upload; the form captures a live photo instead. This page compares the RRB photo and signature size for NTPC, Group D and ALP, explains the 30 KB minimum that trips most people, and links each exam to its signature resizer.
RRB forms capture your photo live with the webcam or phone camera, so there is no photo to upload. The signature is the file you prepare.

What differs between RRB exams
For uploads, nothing. NTPC, Group D and ALP notices all print the same signature rule and the same optional SC/ST certificate. What changes is the calendar: each CEN opens in a different season, so the form you are filling decides the dates, not the sizes.
- One signature file works for all three, as long as it is your normal running signature in black ink.
- The SC/ST certificate is needed only if you ask for a free train pass to the exam. It is one PDF under 400 KB; SahiSize caps it at 399 KB to stay safely under.
- Qualification does not change uploads. A 10th-pass Group D applicant and a graduate NTPC applicant upload the same files.
Why the 30 KB minimum matters
Most exams fail a file for being too big. RRB also fails it for being too small. A clean signature at 140×60 pixels compresses to well under 30 KB, so a quick resize leaves you below the range. SahiSize first enlarges the image step by step, up to 600 px wide (usually about 600×257 px), then raises the quality, and pads the file invisibly only as a last resort. The signature looks the same; the file passes.
The RRB photo is captured live
You do not upload a photo for RRB. The live photo is stricter than SSC’s, and it is compared with your photo ID:
- A pure plain white background, nothing behind you.
- Plain dark, non-white clothes that cover your shoulders and chest.
- Camera at eye level, neutral face, eyes fully open, head filling at least half the frame.
- No cap, mask or glasses, and no strong light behind you.
If the live photo does not match your ID, the form asks for an attested annexure, which costs you days. Five minutes of setting up the light saves that.
Your signature follows you
RRB compares the uploaded signature at the CBT, document verification, the medical and joining. Use the signature you will sign with for years, not a special neat version, and keep the paper you signed on.

RRB signature size FAQ
What is the RRB signature size?
A JPG of at least 140×60 pixels, 30–49 KB, scanned at 100 DPI or more, in black ink on white paper and centred in a 35×20 mm box. NTPC, Group D and ALP all use this rule.
What is the RRB Group D signature size?
The same as NTPC and ALP: at least 140×60 px, 30–49 KB, JPG. Group D applicants often send a 15 KB file because smaller usually feels safer; RRB rejects it for being under 30 KB.
Is there an RRB photo upload or an RRB photo resizer step?
No. The form captures a live photo with your webcam or phone front camera, and matches it with your photo ID. A railway photo resizer cannot help with that; good light, a white wall and dark clothes can.
What is the RRB NTPC photo and signature size?
NTPC has no photo upload, only the live photo. The signature is at least 140×60 px, 30–49 KB, JPG. If you are SC/ST and want a free travel pass, the certificate is a PDF under 400 KB.
Why does RRB reject a sharp, clean signature?
Most often because the file is under 30 KB. Other listed grounds are non-black ink, a non-white background, block or capital letters, and an incomplete signature. Resizing fixes only the first one; sign again for the rest.
