Photo is taken live in the form

You don't need to upload a photo for RRB ALP (Assistant Loco Pilot). The form takes it with your webcam or phone camera. Here's how to get the live photo right:

Upload sizes

Upload errors and how to fix them

These are the messages the RRB ALP (Assistant Loco Pilot) portal shows. Each one has a fix.

Error: File size should be between 30 KB and 49 KB
Fix: A clean signature is usually 10–20 KB, so it fails the 30 KB minimum. SahiSize first enlarges the image (still at least 140×60), then raises quality, and only then adds invisible padding until it reaches 30–49 KB.
Error: Signature written in BLOCK or CAPITAL letters instead of running handwriting
Fix: This is an official rejection ground. Sign in joined, running handwriting the way you sign a cheque.
Error: Use of a non-white background
Fix: Lined notebook paper, a yellowish page or a shadow counts as non-white. Sign on plain white paper and keep Clean signature on to make the background pure white.
Error: Use of non-black ink for the signature
Fix: Blue ink is not allowed for RRB. Sign again with a black pen.
Error: Live photo not matched with Photo ID
Fix: If the live photo does not match your ID, the form asks you to download Annexure VIII, get it attested and upload it. Retake the live photo in good light first.

About the RRB ALP (Assistant Loco Pilot) upload rules

RRB Assistant Loco Pilot (CEN 01/2026) uses the current RRB pattern: no photo upload, a live photo in the form, and a signature with an unusual minimum size. The CEN 01/2026 form was open from 15 May to 14 June 2026.

The signature rule that catches people

  • JPG, at least 140×60 px.
  • 30–49 KB. Note the minimum: most exams fail you for being too big; RRB also fails you for being too small.
  • Scanned at 100 DPI or more.
  • Black ink, white paper, centred in a 35×20 mm box.
  • Running handwriting, not block or capital letters.

A clean signature normally compresses to 10–20 KB, which is under the RRB minimum. SahiSize first makes the image bigger (step by step up to 600 px wide, usually about 600×257 px), then raises quality, and only if still needed adds invisible padding until it reaches 30–49 KB. The signature looks the same.

Live photo: dress and background

RRB’s live photo rules are stricter than SSC’s:

  • Pure plain white background, nothing behind you.
  • Plain dark, non-white clothes covering shoulders and chest.
  • Camera at eye level, neutral face, eyes fully open.
  • Your head should fill at least half the photo; nothing below the chest.
  • No cap, mask or glasses; hair must not cover the face.

The live photo is matched with your photo ID. If it does not match, the form asks for an attested Annexure.

SC/ST free travel pass

If you are SC/ST and want a free train pass to the exam, upload your certificate as a PDF under 400 KB. SahiSize caps it at 399 KB to stay safely under.

ALP has more stages than most RRB exams, with a computer-based aptitude test after the two CBTs, so you may travel more than once. Keep the original certificate safe: the PDF gets you the pass, but document verification checks the original.

One signature across every ALP stage

Your uploaded signature is compared at each CBT, the aptitude test, document verification and the medical. Sign the way you sign attendance sheets, not a slower, neater version you will not repeat.

Rejection grounds RRB lists

Non-white background, non-black ink, block or capital letters, poor resolution, incomplete signature, a thumb impression in place of a signature, or someone else’s signature. Each one can cancel the application at any stage, even after the exam.

If the upload is refused

Most failures are under 30 KB. Run Auto-fit on the original picture, not on a compressed copy, and check the Pass check card shows 30–49 KB.

RRB ALP (Assistant Loco Pilot) size FAQ

Do I upload a photo for RRB ALP?

No. RRB captures a live photo with your webcam or phone front camera while you fill the form. You only upload your signature (and the SC/ST certificate if you want a free travel pass).

What is the signature size for RRB ALP?

JPG, at least 140×60 pixels, 30–49 KB, scanned at 100 DPI or more, black ink on white paper, centred in a 35×20 mm box.

Why is my 15 KB signature rejected? Smaller is better, right?

Not for RRB. The file must be at least 30 KB. SahiSize keeps the signature sharp and brings it up to 30–49 KB.

What should I wear for the RRB live photo?

Plain dark, non-white clothes that cover your shoulders and chest, so you stand out from the white background. No cap, mask or glasses.

Can I sign in blue ink?

No. RRB lists "use of non-black ink" as a rejection ground. Use a black pen.

Does my signature have to match later?

Yes. It is compared at the CBT, document verification, medical and joining. Upload your normal everyday signature.

Is the ALP signature spec the same as NTPC and Group D?

Yes. All recent RRB CENs use the same signature rule: minimum 140×60 px, 30–49 KB, black ink.
