Rules for the photograph

• Photograph 10–200 KB

  JPG

  • Recent colour passport-size photo
  • Plain white background
  • Face covers about 80% of the photo, both ears visible, no mask
  • No polaroid or computer-made photos

  Note: KB-only: the bulletin gives no pixel size. We output 3.5×4.5 cm proportions (≈413×531 px) and shrink only if needed to stay under the KB limit.

Tip: Stand against a plain white wall with light on your face. Keep both ears visible and fill most of the frame with your face.

JEE Main photograph: what is specific to this exam

These JEE Main 2026 rules come from the NTA notice “JEE (Main) 2026 Information Bulletin”, page 10, last checked on 22 Oct 2026. The JEE Main form usually opens around November or February.

• JEE Main keeps uploads short: a photo, a signature and a Class 10 PDF for everyone, plus a disability certificate and an ID proof only for some candidates. Like every NTA form, it states file sizes in KB and gives no pixel dimensions.
• Photograph yourself in colour against a white wall. Your face should fill about 80% of the frame with both ears visible and no mask. Auto-fit keeps a 3.5×4.5 cm shape inside 10–200 KB.
• The form captures a live photo with your webcam or, through a QR code, your phone. It is compared with Aadhaar, so wear what you wear in your recent photo.

• NEET UG and CUET UG use the same photograph size as JEE Main (10–200 KB · JPG), so one file passes all these forms while the photo is still recent. NEET UG sizes · CUET UG sizes

Upload errors and how to fix them

These are the messages the JEE Main portal shows. Each one has a fix.

Error: File size should be between 10 kb to 200 kb

Fix: Your JEE Main photo is too big (or below 10 KB). Phone photos are 2–5 MB; Auto-fit brings it inside 10–200 KB without changing what you look like.

Error: Signature file size should be between 10 kb to 100 kb

Fix: The signature limit is smaller than the photo limit. Crop tight around the ink and Auto-fit to 10–100 KB.

Error: Live photo not matched

Fix: The live photo did not match Aadhaar. Retake it in better light without a cap or new glasses. If it still fails, NTA asks for the attested photo certificate from the bulletin annexure.
