From our India Post GDS notes
- India Post GDS is one of the few forms that states its rules in shapes, not just sizes. The photo is 4:5 and the signature is 5:2. If you crop a photo to a square or a signature to a long thin strip, it will not match, even when the KB is right.
- Photo: JPG, recommended 320×400 px, 30–100 KB, 72–150 DPI, plain white or light background, face filling 70–80% of the image, no shadows or red-eye.

Upload errors and how to fix them
These are the messages the India Post GDS portal shows. Each one has a fix.
- Error:
File size should be between 30 KB and 100 KB
- Fix: A tight-cropped 320×400 photo can come out under 30 KB. Auto-fit raises quality to land inside 30–100 KB.
- Error:
Incorrect aspect ratio
- Fix: Photo must be 4:5 and signature 5:2. SahiSize locks the crop to those shapes.
India Post GDS photograph questions
What is the India Post GDS photo size?
JPG, 320×400 px (4:5), 30–100 KB, 72–150 DPI, plain white or light background, face covering 70–80% of the image.
Is 240×300 also fine for the GDS photo?
The notice gives 240×300 as another 4:5 example, but 320×400 is the recommended size, so SahiSize uses that.
My photo shows my whole upper body. Is that fine for GDS?
No. GDS wants the face to fill 70–80% of the image. Crop in close around the head and shoulders before Auto-fit.
