From our India Post GDS notes
- India Post GDS is one of the few forms that states its rules in shapes, not just sizes. The photo is 4:5 and the signature is 5:2. If you crop a photo to a square or a signature to a long thin strip, it will not match, even when the KB is right.
- Signature: JPG, recommended 300×120 px, 20–100 KB, 72–150 DPI, black or blue pen on white paper, signature filling 70–80% of the image, no borders or extra marks, no typed or digital signature.
- Sign on white paper with a dark pen. Sign slowly; the notice warns against shaky or pixelated signatures.
- Crop close to the ink in the 5:2 frame so it covers 70–80% of the image. Clean signature removes paper edges and shadows, which count as "extra marks".
- A tight 320×400 crop can save under 30 KB; Auto-fit raises the quality to cross it. If the signature is refused, check for a visible paper edge or a shadow.
