DSSSB photo resize works differently from other exams: OARS wants a postcard-style upper-body photo of 480×672 px and 50–300 KB, not a tight passport crop. Use the DSSSB photo resizer below for the photo, the signature (up to 20 KB) and the left and right thumb impressions (up to 40 KB each).

Upload errors and how to fix them
These are the messages the DSSSB (Delhi) portal shows. Each one has a fix.
- Error:
Photo size should be between 50 KB and 300 KB
- Fix: A passport-size crop is too small for DSSSB. Use a postcard-style upper-body photo at 480×672 px; Auto-fit lands it in 50–300 KB.
- Error:
Ears and shoulders not visible
- Fix: DSSSB wants both ears and both shoulders. Step back from the camera and avoid hair covering the ears.
- Error:
Same thumb uploaded twice
- Fix: Left and right thumbs are separate uploads. Files are named thumb_l.jpg and thumb_r.jpg so you do not mix them.
- Error:
Invalid image dimensions
- Fix: If the portal rejects the 140×110 signature, the field may want 110×140 (orientation is disputed). Use the custom size option to swap it.
DSSSB postcard size photo and thumb impression size
DSSSB applications go through OARS, and the photo there is unlike almost any other exam: it is a postcard-size, upper-body photo, not a passport-size face. If you reuse a bank-exam photo, it will be too small in both pixels and KB.
What DSSSB asks for
- Photo: 480×672 px at 96 DPI, 50–300 KB. Upper body visible, with both ears and both shoulders in frame, on a light background.
- Signature: up to 20 KB, black ink. Sources list a 110×140 px box but disagree on which way round it goes.
- Thumb impressions: left and right thumbs as two separate files, each up to 40 KB.
Two judgement calls we made
Sources give the signature limit as 40 KB or 20 KB. A file of 20 KB or less is accepted under both, so SahiSize stays at or below 20 KB.
For the signature box, a signature is wider than it is tall, so we output 140 wide × 110 high. If the portal says the dimensions are wrong, it may want 110×140; use custom size to swap them. We will update this page once the official specification is confirmed.
One sitting, four files
- Stand a step further back than for a passport photo, against a plain light wall. Make sure your shoulders and ears are visible and hair does not cover the ears.
- Crop to the tall postcard frame and Auto-fit to 480×672 px.
- Sign on white paper in black ink. Crop close and fit under 20 KB.
- Ink your left thumb and press once on white paper. Do the same with the right thumb beside it.
- Crop each thumb separately. Files come out as thumb_l.jpg and thumb_r.jpg, so you do not upload the same thumb twice.
Timing
DSSSB publishes notices for different posts through the year, so there is no fixed season. Keep these files ready.
If the portal still rejects it
Most photo rejections are a face-only crop or a file under 50 KB. For thumbs, check you did not upload the left impression in the right-thumb box.
DSSSB photo resizer FAQ
What is the DSSSB photo size?
A postcard-style photo, 480×672 px at 96 DPI, 50–300 KB, showing the upper body with both ears and shoulders.
Why is the DSSSB photo bigger than other exams?
DSSSB OARS asks for a postcard-size upper-body photo, not a passport-size face crop. Hence 480×672 px and a minimum of 50 KB.
Do I upload both thumbs for DSSSB?
Yes. The left and right thumb impressions are separate files, each up to 40 KB.
Is the DSSSB signature 20 KB or 40 KB?
Sources differ. A file under 20 KB is accepted under both rules, so SahiSize keeps it at or below 20 KB.
Can I reuse the DSSSB photo for KVS or CTET?
Not as is. Those want a passport-style face photo with different sizes. Start from the original photo and pick the other exam here.
What is the DSSSB thumb impression size?
The left and right thumbs are separate JPG uploads, each up to 40 KB. Press once on white paper with a stamp pad and photograph it in daylight; Clean thumb removes the grey paper tone.
What is the DSSSB photo upload size in KB?
50–300 KB. Many DSSSB rejections are photos under 50 KB, because a passport-size face crop compresses too small. Keep the upper body in frame and Auto-fit lands it inside the range.
