CSIR UGC NET photograph: what is specific to this exam

These CSIR UGC NET December 2026 rules come from the NTA notice “Joint CSIR-UGC NET December 2026 Information Bulletin”, page 7, last checked on 22 Oct 2026. The CSIR UGC NET form usually opens around October, November or March.

From our CSIR UGC NET notes

• Joint CSIR-UGC NET has the most optional PDFs of the NTA forms. Everyone uploads a photo and a signature; many candidates also need a category certificate or a result-awaited attestation form, and each must be a PDF of 50–300 KB.
• Photo: recent, in colour, white background, about 80% face with both ears and no mask. Limit 10–200 KB, JPG. NTA gives no pixel size; SahiSize keeps 3.5×4.5 cm proportions.
• A live photo is captured during the form and matched with Aadhaar. Take it in the same light and with the same look as your uploaded photo.

CSIR UGC NET photograph compared with similar exams

• UGC NET, CUET UG and NEET UG use the same photograph size as CSIR UGC NET (10–200 KB · JPG), so one file passes all these forms while the photo is still recent. UGC NET sizes · CUET UG sizes · NEET UG sizes

Upload errors and how to fix them

These are the messages the CSIR UGC NET portal shows. Each one has a fix.

Error: File size should be between 10 kb to 200 kb

Fix: Your CSIR NET photo is too big (or below 10 KB). Phone photos are 2–5 MB; Auto-fit brings it inside 10–200 KB without changing what you look like.

Error: Signature file size should be between 10 kb to 50 kb

Fix: The signature limit is smaller than the photo limit. Crop tight around the ink and Auto-fit to 10–50 KB.

Error: Live photo not matched

Fix: The live photo did not match Aadhaar. Retake it in better light without a cap or new glasses. If it still fails, NTA asks for the attested photo certificate from the bulletin annexure.
