Rules for the photograph
-
Photograph 10–200 KB
JPG
- Recent photo, colour or black & white, taken on or after 1 January 2026
- Plain white background
- Face covers about 80% of the photo, both ears visible, no mask
- Spectacles only if you wear them regularly; no polaroid or computer-made photos
Note: KB-only: the bulletin gives no pixel size. We output 3.5×4.5 cm proportions (≈413×531 px) and shrink only if needed to stay under the KB limit.
Tip: Stand against a plain white wall with light on your face. Keep both ears visible and fill most of the frame with your face.
NEET UG photograph: what is specific to this exam
These NEET UG 2026 rules come from the NTA notice “NEET (UG) 2026 Information Bulletin”, page 21, last checked on 22 Oct 2026. The NEET UG form usually opens around February–March.
From our NEET UG notes
- NEET UG asks for more uploads than any other NTA exam: a photo, a signature, one sheet of finger and thumb prints from both hands, and several PDFs. NTA gives no pixel sizes, only KB ranges, and it does not let you correct the photo, signature or prints after you submit. So it pays to prepare everything before you open the form.
- Photo. Take a new one in the exam year (the bulletin sets the earliest date), against a white wall, with your face filling about 80% of the frame and both ears showing. Colour or black and white both work. SahiSize keeps a 3.5×4.5 cm shape and lands it inside 10–200 KB.
- Older NEET forms asked for a postcard-size (4×6 inch) photo upload; the 2026 bulletin, as we read it, asks only for the passport-style photo above. A printed postcard-size photo can still be needed on exam day, so read your admit card, and print copies of the photo you uploaded with the passport photo sheet tool.
- The form also captures a live photo and matches it with your Aadhaar record. Sit facing a window, remove a cap or mask, and keep the same look as your uploaded photo.
NEET UG photograph compared with similar exams
- JEE Main, CUET UG and UGC NET use the same photograph size as NEET UG (10–200 KB · JPG), so one file passes all these forms while the photo is still recent. JEE Main sizes · CUET UG sizes · UGC NET sizes
Upload errors and how to fix them
These are the messages the NEET UG portal shows. Each one has a fix.
- Error:
File size should be between 10 kb to 200 kb
- Fix: Your NEET photo is too big (or below 10 KB). Phone photos are 2–5 MB; Auto-fit brings it inside 10–200 KB without changing what you look like.
- Error:
Signature file size should be between 10 kb to 100 kb
- Fix: The signature limit is smaller than the photo limit. Crop tight around the ink and Auto-fit to 10–100 KB.
- Error:
Live photo not matched
- Fix: The live photo did not match Aadhaar. Retake it in better light without a cap or new glasses. If it still fails, NTA asks for the attested photo certificate from the bulletin annexure.
NEET UG photograph questions
Does the NEET photo need my name and date?
Not in the 2026 bulletin. It must be recent (taken in 2026), on a white background with 80% face and both ears visible. Keep 6–8 prints for the exam and counselling.
Can I correct the photo after submitting?
NTA says no correction facility is given for photo, signature and finger impressions, so check them in the Pass check card before uploading.
