400 KB photo size: compress photo to 400 KB

Get the 400 KB photo size for big images and photographed documents. Add your file and download a JPG of 360–400 KB, made on your own phone without uploading.

We'll make your photo 400 KB.

JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC, up to 25 MB

Processed on your device. Never uploaded.

More optionsNow: 400 KB. Tap to pick another size.
Target size

Any number from 5 to 5000 KB.

Leave empty unless your form gives a minimum, like 20 KB for IBPS photos.

The picture may get smaller in pixels (at most 2000 px on the long side) so it stays sharp at low KB.

Your file will be 360–400 KB.

About this tool and size

Where a 400 KB image is used

A 400 KB limit is mostly for documents. RRB NTPC, RRB ALP and RRB Group D ask for the SC/ST certificate (for the free travel pass) as a PDF of up to 399 KB. That is a PDF rule, so convert your certificate photo with Images to PDF and set 399 KB there. Use this page when a portal accepts the document as a JPG of up to 400 KB.

What a 400 KB JPG gives you

Four hundred kilobytes keeps an A4 document photo crisp, with clear text and stamps, or a portrait well beyond what any form displays. Expect no visible compression at all.

As a rough guide, a passport-style photo on a plain background stays clean at about 770×1030 pixels in 400 KB. A busy background or a dim, noisy shot needs more kilobytes for the same size, and a signature on white paper needs far fewer.

What you will get

Whatever you add, the download is a baseline JPG (not progressive) between 360 and 400 KB. It stays under 4,00,000 bytes, so it passes whether the portal counts 1 KB as 1000 or 1024 bytes, and hidden camera and location data are removed.

Tip before you compress

Mind odd caps. A limit of 399 KB, like RRB’s, means a 400 KB file fails. When the number is not round, set your target a little below it.

Other sizes and ranges

Pick the size just under the limit printed on your form. If the form gives both a minimum and a maximum, a range page fills in the minimum for you.

How to use it

  1. Add your image. Take a photo or pick one from your gallery. JPG, PNG, WebP and iPhone HEIC files all work.
  2. Check the target. 400 KB is already selected. Type a minimum if your form sets one, and decide whether the pixel size may change.
  3. Let it work. The tool tries the highest JPEG quality that stays under 400 KB and makes the picture smaller only when it has to.
  4. Download. When every line of the pass check has a tick, save the JPG and upload it to your form.

Questions

Can I compress a certificate to 399 KB here?

Yes, type 399 as the target. But if the form wants a PDF, use Images to PDF so the file type is right too.

Is 400 KB too big for a photo?

For most exam photos, yes: they cap at 50–200 KB. Use 400 KB only when a form allows it.

Does the page keep my document’s colours?

Yes. Colours, stamps and signatures are kept; only the JPEG quality and, if needed, the pixel size change.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. Compression runs inside your browser on your own device. The page even works offline after your first visit.
