5 KB photo size: compress image to 5 KB

Need the 5 KB photo size for a tiny upload field? Add your picture and get a JPG between 4.5 and 5 KB, made on your phone with nothing uploaded.

We'll make your photo 5 KB.

JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC, up to 25 MB

Processed on your device. Never uploaded.

More optionsNow: 5 KB. Tap to pick another size.
Target size

Any number from 5 to 5000 KB.

Leave empty unless your form gives a minimum, like 20 KB for IBPS photos.

The picture may get smaller in pixels (at most 2000 px on the long side) so it stays sharp at low KB.

Your file will be 4.5–5 KB.

About this tool and size

Where a 5 KB limit shows up

Five kilobytes is rare on national exam forms, and none of the exams we track uses it as a maximum. You meet it on older state, university and scholarship portals built when storage was expensive, usually for a signature or a small ID photo. It also helps when a form gives a very low floor: CTET accepts a signature from 3 KB up to 30 KB, so a 5 KB copy of your signature fits.

How a 5 KB image looks

At 5 KB there is room for a face about the size of a postage stamp on screen. Skin turns smooth and hair loses its strands, but the face stays recognisable at the size portals display it. A dark-ink signature on white paper survives much better: the white area costs almost nothing, so the strokes stay clean.

As a rough guide, a passport-style photo on a plain background stays clean at about 90×120 pixels in 5 KB. A busy background or a dim, noisy shot needs more kilobytes for the same size, and a signature on white paper needs far fewer.

What you will get

Whatever you add, the download is a baseline JPG (not progressive) between 4.5 and 5 KB. It stays under 5,000 bytes, so it passes whether the portal counts 1 KB as 1000 or 1024 bytes, and hidden camera and location data are removed.

Tip before you compress

Crop tightly first. For a photo keep only head and shoulders; for a signature cut the paper right up to the ink. Every pixel you remove is detail the 5 KB budget can spend on what matters.

Other sizes and ranges

Pick the size just under the limit printed on your form. If the form gives both a minimum and a maximum, a range page fills in the minimum for you.

How to use it

  1. Add your image. Take a photo or pick one from your gallery. JPG, PNG, WebP and iPhone HEIC files all work.
  2. Check the target. 5 KB is already selected. Type a minimum if your form sets one, and decide whether the pixel size may change.
  3. Let it work. The tool tries the highest JPEG quality that stays under 5 KB and makes the picture smaller only when it has to.
  4. Download. When every line of the pass check has a tick, save the JPG and upload it to your form.

Questions

Can a passport photo really be 5 KB?

Yes, but only at a small pixel size, around 90×120. If your form allows 10 or 20 KB, use that instead: the face will be noticeably sharper.

The portal says "less than 5 KB". Is 4.9 KB safe?

Yes. The file lands between 4.5 and 5 KB and stays under 5,000 bytes, so it passes whether the portal counts a kilobyte as 1000 or 1024 bytes.

Why did my picture get so small in pixels?

A 12-megapixel phone photo cannot fit in 5 KB at full size, so the tool shrinks it step by step until the quality is acceptable. Turn on Keep dimensions only if the form fixes the width and height.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. Compression runs inside your browser on your own device. The page even works offline after your first visit.
